BOURNEMOUTH have just rejected a shock £15million offer from Wolves to sign their former player Benik Afobe.

The Championship club sold Afobe, 24, to the Cherries for £10m in January 2016 but boss Nuno Santo wanted him back at Molineux.

It comes on a day that both Swansea and West Brom have both made efforts to prise the player away from the Vitality Stadium.

But Afobe has started two of Bournemouth’s first three Premier League games so far this season and wants to stay despite the arrival of Jermain Defoe from Sunderland in the summer.

Swansea showed the most interest but it emerged that Afobe would not be able to fly back to the UK for a medical by the DR Congo team a day before they play a World Cup qualifier in Tunisia.

However, Wolves made a bid out the blue this evening, which has surprised everyone.

Afobe, who came through the ranks at Arsenal, has been getting a lot more game time on the South Coast this year and a source at the club has told SunSport there is “no chance” of him dropping back into the Championship this season.

The striker is keen to fight for his place with Josh King and Defoe – although his situation might be worth watching come January.

Afobe spent two seasons with the Wolves scoring 22 goals in 46 league appearances before signing a four-and-a-half year deal with Bournemouth in 2016.
